Description
The Thornbury turns 84 cm of patio into three separate growing beds. The stepped troughs stand clear of one another so the back row is not shaded by the front, which makes it a genuinely productive herb and salad planter rather than an ornament: basil and parsley in the top, cut-and-come-again leaves in the middle, trailing thyme or bedding spilling over the bottom.
It is built from 18mm pressure-treated European softwood on a braced frame, with each trough 15 cm deep and pre-drilled for drainage. The whole thing weighs 14 kg empty, so one person can move it round the patio to follow the sun, and it is narrow enough at 38 cm to sit on a balcony or against a wall by a back door.
What is included
- Three pre-assembled timber troughs, pre-drilled for drainage

Care
Use a peat-free multipurpose compost and keep the drainage holes clear; a shallow trough dries faster than a border, so water daily in hot weather. Treat the timber with a plant-safe exterior wood oil in the first year and every two to three years after. Empty and refresh the compost each spring.
